WHY SCREEN EARLY?

They may not know
what they’re missing.

Children’s vision is still developing. An early check can help identify when a closer look is needed.

Looking fine isn’t the whole picture.

Children don’t have an adult’s point of comparison. They may become used to the way they see, and some concerns are not obvious in everyday play.

Photoscreening looks for certain factors, such as a possible focusing imbalance between the eyes, that can be associated with reduced visual development. It helps identify children who may need further assessment.

Earlier assessment can make a difference.

Some childhood vision problems, including amblyopia, benefit from being identified and treated while vision is developing. A screening creates an opportunity to find out whether a comprehensive examination is needed.

A screening result cannot diagnose amblyopia, prescribe glasses or give an all-clear for every eye condition. An eye care professional makes those assessments.

Your observations still matter.

If something about your child’s eyes or vision concerns you, arrange professional advice even if they have passed a screening. Keep any existing eye care appointments.
