YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A little clarity
before the little check.

Here are the things schools and parents most often want to know.

Is this a full eye examination?

No. This is instrument-based screening for certain vision risk factors that are difficult to detect in pre-verbal or early-verbal children, It cannot diagnose every eye condition, prescribe glasses or replace a comprehensive examination by an eye care professional.

Does my child need to read or speak?

No. Plusoptix screening does not depend on naming letters or shapes. Your child briefly looks towards the device while it measures both eyes with its award winning german technology.

What ages do you screen?

We are able to screen babies and children from 6 months to 6 years. Check your school’s invitation for eligibility, or contact us to discuss whether this screening is suitable for your child.

How long does it take?

The interaction is typically around a minute per child. Some children need longer to settle or another attempt, so this is a guide rather than a time limit.

Will it hurt or involve eye drops?

This child friendly approach measures from a short distance, approximately 1m, without touching the eyes or the child. This school screening does not use eye drops.

What if my child already wears glasses?

Let us know through the agreed registration route and continue any existing eye care appointments. We’ll confirm the appropriate screening arrangements for your child.

What does a referred result mean?

It means a full eye examination is recommended. A screening referral is not a diagnosis. The result will explain the next step; follow the advice from the eye care professional who examines your child.

Can a child pass and still have a vision problem?

Yes. No screening identifies every concern. If you or your child’s teacher notices something worrying, seek professional advice even after a pass.

What happens if a measurement cannot be completed?

An incomplete screening is not recorded as a pass. We’ll explain the next step, which may be another attempt or a professional examination.

How much does it cost?

The fee and payment arrangement are confirmed in your school’s invitation. Schools can ask us about parent-direct payment or school-managed billing.

How do I register my child?

Follow the school-specific registration link in your school’s invitation. If you have lost it, contact your school or use our general enquiry form to ask for help.

What if my child is absent?

Contact us through the details in your school’s invitation. Any alternative screening date and applicable booking terms depend on the arrangements agreed for that school.

How will I receive the result?

Results are communicated privately to the parent or guardian through the arrangements explained for your school’s programme, usually via email. The registration information will explain the delivery method.

Can a school book an annual screening day?

Yes, we can discuss a recurring place in your school’s calendar, subject to availability and the arrangements agreed each year.
